My one year old has croup, I got him an appt for out of hours he was prescribed steroids however have to wait till pharmacy opens as they never had any in the room. I have raised him up right and made sure he drinks a lot and gave him calpol for temp. I have the fan on as cold air apparently good. Any other tips other parents can give and how long did your little ones last? So scary sounding.

Thank you

It's a terrible sound isn't it? The best things for them are keeping them calm as crying makes it worse, and cool night air- so if it's getting worse you can sit next to an open window or door or in the garden if you have one, and wrap them up in a blanket.

It normally only lasts a couple of days though, and with the steroids it should be pretty quick. Good luck!

Cool night air was the main thing that helped for us, and then having DS sleeping on my shoulder so I could prop him almost completely upright. With keeping them calm, videos on your phone can help.

Cool air outside, or a few mins sat with freezer door open can also help. Anything cold for them to breathe in.

What did the doctor say about whether you keep them home or can go out or if it's contagious? Seems to be a grey area with kids. My middle son seems prone to croup but never get advice about it x
