Hello! So, first time poster here, I stumbled across this site on accident. Used to be on Cafe mom back in the day and it was interesting. Dare I say uplifting as a first time mom. Well, it's a decade later and that baby is almost 10, could use some words of wisdom about the tween years. Maybe impart a little wisdom if I can, I'm not the brightest penny in the fountain but I aim to help where I can.
Little about me, I'm mid 30s mama, married to a man with endless patience who is my ride or die, we've been together since we were 16. We have one daughter,Alexa, she is almost 10 and she has autism. Still navigating those waters but we r getting there. She's my sassy girl, mostly non verbal but gets her point across. Infinitely smarter than me in every way, she is loving and hilarious. I work part time as an afterschool program coordinator, 17 years in this career and I love it as much as I hate it as much as I love it. Kids make it worth it but I question my life choices daily. Come from a big family, lots of siblings, parents with addiction who traumatized the f out of us as much as they made our childhood magical/full on fuckery on the daily. Oh, and my apologies I have a mouth like a sailor. I don't smoke or drink, so it's my one vice. What else? Oh, we homeschool. Not because I'm crunchy or super religious but my kid is a sour patch and school wasn't a good fit. Plus, I genuinely like my kid, and I love having her with me.

Two things:

  • I wonder if you might want to rethink your username. I’m old enough to find it deeply unpleasant.
  • This is a very large site for anonymous posters. Not at all a cosy gathering of trusted friends. So I would think twice about using the real names of your children, partner, friends - and they may prefer not to have their identifiable lives displayed on a public forum.
Take a look around and read some threads to get a feeling for the MN culture.
