SIL is quite concerned about this. The Dr said that it was fine but she is not convinced and I also was under the impression that a baby should have at least one dirty nappy every day. The baby is crying because of the pain of colic and has a rash over cheeks and chest which the Dr said was casued by the milk dribbling!? What are your thoughts please?

My 2 bf babies would often go a week to 10 days without a poo.

My thoughts are that it is perfectly normal for a bf baby to go a good few weeks without a dirty nappy.

Enjoy it while it lasts - at 10 months my DS poos twice a day

Mistymoo · 18/01/2008 17:57

Thanks for that. One question though - were they always like that or was it a gradual change?

My DS would go for about a week without a poo at 6 weeks having had a poo once or twice a day up to then. Very worrying for you but entirely normal. I phoned NHS direct and they thought no problem with this. Could be sign of growth spurt?

Tangas · 18/01/2008 18:03

MY ds went without a poo for a few days. I heard its perfect normal. don't worry so

spicemonster · 18/01/2008 18:04

I think he pooed more in the beginning and then it tailed off but I can't really remember if I'm honest

Shitemum · 18/01/2008 18:06

mine went 10 days without a poo once too.

Tangas · 18/01/2008 18:07

also it does say in the "birth to five" book you get. Have a butchers

isaidno · 19/01/2008 07:12

with mine they were pooing daily then missed a couple of days, then missed a few more then they were only pooing once a week until they were on solids.

But, a word of warning, that is a serious poo when it arrives!

My BF DS used to poo all the time when he was first born and then suddenly he stopped. He used to only poo about once a week if that when he was about the same age as your baby. Nothing to worry about I don't think. Now he's nearly 8 months old and poos a couple of times a day (sometimes more!).

My DD has gone for about 6 days without a poo - sure that as long as is a bf baby is OK. She is 6mths now as sometimes goes every day, sometimes a few days go by. As long as nappies are wet. Young babies aeem to get all manner of skin rashes - my dd had a kind of baby acne for months. My ds - now 2 - had a dry eczema type rash. Maybe best not to use anything other than water to wash?

BabyBuftersNappies · 20/01/2008 08:46

We went 2 weeks with no concern from HV. Was fun though when she did go and i was in bed and DH had to deal with it
I think it because there is less waste with breast milk or something like that.

damonsmum07 · 20/01/2008 18:50

My baby went 4 days without a poo and i was concerned too put he did do that quite often when he was a bit younger now hes 8 months he poos 2-3 times a day maybe more. As my hv said to me babies are like us they dont need to poop every single day.

derah · 21/01/2008 19:51

My DD went every 4 days when she was tiny. And it was not pretty when she finally did go!
