My 13 month old DD has always been a rubbish daytime sleeper. (Fine at night, but naps are just awful.) Mostly I’ve been able to get her to take one nap in the afternoon, though it usually takes at least half an hour to get her to sleep.
About a week ago I did the usual routine, lunch, wind down, dark room, in cot and gentle patting to sleep and she just did. Not. Sleep. She wasn’t upset, just wanted to play, happily babbling to me and pulling on her cot sheets. I gave up after an hour and a half and we got on with the rest of our day, but she was clearly exhausted and crabby and ended up overtired.
Since then she just hasn’t napped at all. She won’t nap in the cot, pram, car seat, nothing. She obviously needs one as she’s now chronically overtired, always rubbing her eyes and yawning, but she just won’t nap during the day. Evenings are difficult because she’s too tired to eat her tea properly, so she whines a lot. I’ve pulled her bedtime back to 6.30 to try and give her more sleep at night, but she just wakes up early.
Can you drop to no nap this early? Any tips?
