I've just had to write a 2000 word review of a research article.

Since the review is only on the one article do I need to reference it with the authors name, date and page number everytime I quote from it?

I would reference it with the full info the first time you mention it and then after that you can use 'ibid' instead of having to quote the whole thing again. Are you doing footnotes or will you be mentioning it in the main body of your report?

could you not just say Smith ... [1], and then full reference at the end of your review?

Using Harvard referencing system. Only just learning how to do it, I'm so confused. AAARRGGhhh

Use a citation.

Put (Bloggs, 2005) after the excepts and the full details in the reference section.

Your university should have a study skills section that should make this really clear.

o, well it would be Smith (2008) and still full reference at the end of your review

Thanks

you could just put (ibid p..)

the ibid stands for "the ref I said before" and saves all the hassle!

One note, saying 'All quotations, unless otherwise specified, are from A. Bloggs and V. V. Dull, Journal of the Extremely Insignificant...

Then you can just put page refs at end of each quotation

oh Threadworn that would have been so much simpler. Shame I handed the review in before reading your post.
