What to put on baby scar? Or will it heal by itself?

Hi everyone,
My baby scratched herself over a month ago, it was on her face and bled. I know it was just one of those things that can't be helped but o obviously feel awful for it.
Anyway you can still see the mark on her face, it's right under her eye about 2cm long, it's clearly not healing by itself 😔 the skin is healed so it looks like it's staying that way.
Any ideas what I can use that's baby friendly? I've been reading that lanisoh nipple cream can be used for acne scars so I figured I can try that, any other ideas? Or shall I leave it a bit longer? Her poor face, it's quite upsetting 😔
Thank you x

Kelo cote uv scar gel. I got splashed in the face by boiling oil when cooking and this is what I was recommended to use. Keeping the sun off it will be important.

Sorry I should have mentioned, my baby is only 10 weeks old x

oh love 💕 it will heal invisibly eventually, it just takes a while with baby skin! Lansinoh is a good idea if you want to do something but it will fade eventually. Just start with a small amount in case of lanolin allergy.

Bio oil?

CantStartaFireWithoutaSpark · 22/07/2022 21:34

Coconut oil.

My 18 month old had a huge chicken pox scab which left a scar, he is now 6 and it has completely healed. Could see it if you looked closely until about 6 months ago. I think 2 months is a short amount of time and expect it will heal eventually. Try not to worry (easier said than done i know).

Sally872 · 22/07/2022 21:40

Also should add it was mostly healed much quicker, could only see it if you looked closely for a few years.

Suzi888 · 22/07/2022 21:47

DD did this- looked awful for ages. Use spf sun cream and a scar oil/gel if you want to but honestly it’ll fade as she gets older. You think think it won’t but it will. They’ll get lots of bumps/cuts and scars sometimes from various things. Just be careful any creams /oils don’t get rubbed into the eye. I’d use a small amount when you know she’s having a long sleep. Maybe speak to a pharmacist as she’s so little.
Keep her nails short and pop mitts on if she’ll keep them on. 💐Try not to worry.

Any scar will be more obvious if it gets the sun on it so sun cream every day even if it's not sunny.

rach1stbaby · 23/07/2022 12:27

Thanks all ❤️
It's reassuring to know that there is hope it will fade in time by itself!
For now I will just try Lansinioh, I will however look into that kelo cote scar gel if it doesn't fade with that or with time. Xx

My daughter tripped at cut her head about a year ago. It needed stitches and has taken a very long time to heal, but it is gradually fading and I think it will eventually just leave a faint, white line.

Anon778833 · 23/07/2022 14:09

I use bio oil btw. But babies have very fast cell turnover so they are less likely to scar than older people.

Discovereads · 23/07/2022 14:10

Mederma scar gel. It’s the best

Frazzled2207 · 23/07/2022 14:15

I promise it will fade by itself even if you do nothing.

rach1stbaby · 25/07/2022 18:36

@Suzi888

Hey, sorry can I just ask was the scratch your DD indented? Mine is ever so slightly. And how long did it actually take to heal?
I've been using a bit of the Lansinoh and a little coconut oil and doing a little circle massage over it now and again to try and stimulate some growth. I've got everything crossed it will heal over eventually but not sure skin can heal over the top as it looks like it's already healed, if you know what I mean.
I assume the skin will turn to her normal skin colour at some time and it will look a lot better but I just can't stop looking at it.
Your all probably going to think it's not that bad but I'm just so sad everytime I look at it. It didn't particularly bleed a lot or anything at the time either?! Bless her, it's all my fault cos I left a sharp bit on her nail 😔 x

Hoping it doesn't get bigger with age also 😩

OP posts:
Sally872 · 27/07/2022 12:20

I think there is as much if not more chance it will shrink as the rest of her grows.

Honestly it doesn't look bad at all. Really don't see that leaving a permenant mark. My children have had many deeper cuts and scrapes over the years and none have scarred.

rnsaslkih · 27/07/2022 12:21

It looks fine, honestly don’t worry.

I personally would just leave it and not put any products so close to her eyes.

rach1stbaby · 27/07/2022 21:08

@Sally872 & @rnsaslkih thanks so much for replying and I'm clinging onto hope that it will just fade in time 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 then I will look back and feel silly for all the unnecessary worry 🤞🏻💕

Hey. I have a similar scar on my son. How does your little girls look now?

firsttimemama1994 · 09/12/2022 22:27

@Reva07 it's still there unfortunately. It's a lot better than it was in this pic. You can't see it in photos or when you look straight on at her but you can in certain angles/lights. I'm just going to have to assume it's going to get a lot better with age. Sorry about your son 😞 hope you're ok x

whattodo235 · 27/05/2024 18:11

I know this thread is 2 years old but just wondering what happened OP (and any PPs with similar issues)? My little guy has a scar on his forehead I feel terrible about at present, it’s been 2 months so hoping it will fade with time :(((((

firsttimemama1994 · 05/06/2024 18:24

@whattodo235

Honestly it's basically vanished now. Can still see a very faint indentation but you really REALLY have to search for it and only in certain lights, no one would ever know. I'll attach a pic. Whatever it looks like now, it will improve so much over the next 2 years I promise.

My little girl then fell on some drawer knobs at home in July 23 and has an indent in her forehead which has now overtaken my thoughts again, it's been about a year now. The worries never end 😫 my advice is try to not let it overtake your thoughts whatever the outcome (as I have). The scratch was an obsession and now it's been overtaken by the indent on her forehead sadly. Sending love to you x

firsttimemama1994 · 05/06/2024 18:27

I have so many photos on my phone, you can't see a thing x
