Formula feeding out and about

I am trying to get my head around the best way to prepare formula when out and about.

I am currently using pre made bottles from ship but as DS is only 1 month this is working out expensive and wasteful.

I bought a rapid cool but this is not as good as I thought it would be as you can only use for one feed the cannot be used for 3 hours.

I think I will take two flasks out - one hot amd one cool boiled water to imitate the perfect prep. For those of you who use this method, do you also sterilise the flasks you are using or is it enough that water is sterile? How do you sterilise flasks?

Any hints or tips appreciated- thanks!!

I did this. I didn't sterilise the flasks.

Make sure the flasks are easy to pour from. It's a complete pain if you spill the water everywhere!

I only used ready made. I’m more than happy to suck up a bit of wastage for the very short time they’re having small feeds if it means avoiding lugging 2 flasks plus pre-measured powder everywhere I go and have to measure it all out in situ even of you’re not somewhere massively convenient like a park bench for example. However, if you do do flasks I don’t think you would need to sterilise. You’d only be putting boiling water in them, not milk, and sterilising is primarily to remove any potential left over milk residue which can sometimes breed nasty bacteria.

I got lucky because at around two months DS would drink cold from fridge. So if I going out for the day I’d make up in before I went, let them cool, and keep them chilly in a cool bag with an ice pack. That’s good for up to six hours but after 4 with no fridge I’d use a readymade.

he’s ten months now and will still only drink formula chilled. It’s very handy.
