How do you get to the airport?

How do you get to the airport with young children who require car seats? Are there taxi companies who provide car seats? All advice welcome!

Will you be having a hire car at the other end? If so, take your car seats, well wrapped in wrapping film. You can also pad them out with beach towels and packs of nappies to save baggage space. Airlines carry them for free.

DH googled this the other day and apparently children can legally travel in taxis without a car seat (either on laps if little or on their own with a seatbelt)

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 20/07/2022 18:40

Taxi companies can provide them

Or u drive and park at airport or go on train how we got there but taxi to our nearest airport would be very expensive

Frazzled2207 · 20/07/2022 18:53

We normally take car seats on holiday as hiring a car so they just go in the taxi.
alternatively you ask taxi company to provide
or
park the car at an airport car park
or
go in the taxi without a car seat. Is legal.

Thanks everyone. Does anyone know of any taxi companies near Stansted Airport, Gatwick Airport, Tottenham Hale or London Victoria who provide car seats?

If you're travelling from a London airport could you not go by public transport?

samebutdifferentt · 20/07/2022 19:04

We used to take our own car seats in the taxi to the airport, they’d store them in their office whilst we were away then bring them for the pick up. Lovely local firm, might be worth asking a few.

Favouritefruits · 20/07/2022 19:19

use meet and greet, use your own car and car seats, usually less than a taxi and so easy!

pimlicoanna · 20/07/2022 19:21

We're in London and go by coach. But for the other end on holiday we have got Bubblebum inflatable booster seats.

DelurkingAJ · 20/07/2022 19:23

We used a firm that stored our seats at their depot and brought them back to us for the return journey. Amazing! And they did a brisk trade in airport journeys.

Changechangychange · 20/07/2022 19:25

If you can get to Victoria or Tottenham, you could just take public transport surely?

Afterfire · 20/07/2022 19:26

We’ve always gone on the train / tube. Much quicker and easier than trying to park etc - we come from Norfolk as well so not a short journey we just prefer to do it that way. The kids get excited about the train etc too as it’s a rare treat for them.

Lazypuppy · 20/07/2022 19:27

Always drive and pay for parking at airport. Nothing better than getting straight back into own car after journey home from holiday

LIZS · 20/07/2022 19:34

Train?

lickenchugget · 20/07/2022 19:41

Always valet parking at the airport.

BertieBotts · 20/07/2022 19:45

We drive and pay for parking or get someone to drop us off.

For car seats at the other end so far we've been visiting family so been able to get people to borrow them, but if that wasn't an option I'd buy lightweight belt fitted ones and swap them into our car for the journey to the airport, then bring in the hold.

Iknownothing · 20/07/2022 19:48

Airport parking with clubcard vouchers

SaharaSahara · 21/07/2022 06:41

What @MsSquiz said. Apparently it’s at the drivers discretion.
