Speech Regression 2 year old

My son is 2.4 years old from 18 months old he has always had advanced talking skills for his age. Over about 3 days he talking has really regressed. From a boy who spoke clearly in 4 word sentences to saying very few words and some words being unintelligible babbling or stuttering to get his words out.

I saw the GP about it and she just said “kids go through phases” and didn’t seem concerned. However I am and quite shocked about the change in him. To note apart from speech regression I can’t notice any other regression in him or characteristics or autism. Just wondered if any other parents have been through this with their children? And how long did it last?

The obvious question is what happened 3 days ago? Trauma/major change/upheaval can sometimes have this effect - I apparently went from full sentences to stuttering for a week when my baby sister arrived.

Thank you for your response, the only thing I can think of was that he was poorly and vomiting before it started. Whether the vomiting upset him. Thankfully his speech has been much better today so it’s improving.
