Tonsillitis and high temp for a week

4 year old has tonsillitis and had been running a temp since last Sat. She's been to the drs twice and they've not prescribed antibiotics. They said if it was bacterial, the antibiotics would only speed recovery up by one day. They've done a swab to see if it's viral or bacterial, don't have the results yet.

I just wanted to see if this is normal. Her temp spikes around 39. Her throat looks a bit less red/swollen. She's fine in herself most of the time but can quickly get very tired and is napping everyday. Am I just being impatient?!

This is old and nobody even bothered to respond! How did you get on? Going through similar

Sorry you're going through the same ☹️ My little one needed antibiotics in the end. Swab came back about a week later 🙄 She was back to herself after about 2 doses. She's had it once since and was also given antibiotics. I'd push to get seen/swabbed if you haven't already.

Our doctor prescribed antibiotics on seeing our 18 month old and within a day of taking them she’d gone from absolutely miserable to a lot better. We’d had a few days of high temperature with no sign of much improvement before that
