Why is 14 month old DD crying?!

Hi all

Just want to check if I'm missing something obvious...

14 month old DD is usually such a happy little thing, but the past few days she's been so upset every evening and then wakes several times in the night crying. It's been like back in the newborn days when we had the witching hour crying spells every evening!

DD's temp is normal. Just waiting for the four second molars to come through, which I can't see any sign of (although it's tricky to get a good look) plus one of the canines. There may be the tip of the canine poking through but DD was never upset like this with any of her other teeth, so I'm not sure that's it. Plus, when we give pain relief it doesn't seem to make a massive difference.

It's horrible seeing DD this upset every night and I'm getting a bit concerned. But Idon't really feel I can contact the GP and say 'there's nothing visibly wrong with DD, she's just getting upset every evening, please can you take a look?'.

Am I missing something?

... it's really fucking hot at the moment! It's hard to sleep in the heat and your baby can't tell you she's too hot, she can only cry.

I agree. The heat will be making her grumpy and grouchy

It's hot weather. Give her more to drink, and try putting a wet flannel on her forehead (leave it there when she's asleep). Perhaps one of those cooling mats from B and M would help

I’d say the canine is to blame. My DD’s canines were agony for her, worse than the molars! Her last canine was the worst - no amount of painkillers helped.

I know what you mean about the heat but actually things got bad after the ridiculously hot weather subsided. Where we are it's been much cooler the past few days, not overly hot, so I'm not sure it's that. Although I'm dreading Sun-Tue if there's the awful heat on top of whatever else is going on!

@Vicky1989x that's interesting that your DD's last canine was the worst, I wonder if it could be that then. I think I can just see the tip under the gum surface but it's so tricky to tell for sure.

Ear infection?

sunnyfields25 · 14/07/2022 23:14

@Garman your comment has reminded me actually that DD has been falling over more than usual these past few days. I thought it was because she's tired but it could be ear related!
