My baby screams like crazy during and after feeds. Does anyone know what this is? The GP isn't very helpful!!!

How old is your baby and how are they fed? If you look at the symptoms of reflux do they fit your baby?

9 weeks. Bottle fed. I'll look at reflux symptoms

Is your baby sick after feeding?

There are lots of things to look at:

  • Is baby on too big a teat size?
  • Pace feeding
  • Experimenting with burping more often
  • Feeding in a more upright position where baby's mouth is higher than their stomach
  • Any signs of an allergy or intolerance- skin problems, green/frothy/mucousy nappies
  • Is your baby being sick more often than normal posseting?
  • Is weight gain ok?

If you've tried all of the treat-at-home techniques for a refluxy baby and still no luck, you can try giving infant gaviscon from your GP. They can also prescribe stronger anti-reflux medication if the situation worsens and your baby isn't gaining weight properly because they either won't feed or can't keep milk down.

If you suspect it might be an allergy instead then you can get a prescription for a hypoallergenic milk. There's several different types and levels of 'hypoallergenic to completely dairy free' so if one doesn't seem to help there are others to try.

I had exactly this, we were prescribed omeprazole and gaviscon for reflux and nutramigen for cmpa due to him having a rash. This helped slightly but I still wasn't happy so got the health visitor to prescribe alfamino which is completely dairy free and it's like a feeding a different baby and is so settled.

Thanks!!! Might need to change the doctor. Everyone says colic colic colic but that just sounds like an excuse for anything that's wrong with a baby.

Could be ‘silent’ reflux - baby isn’t actually sick and I can tell you it’s definitely not’silent’ - doctor prescribed infant gAviscon (or similar) which helped a lot. Good luck

I've been to the doc twice and he doesn't take me seriously.
My baby screams pretty much every time I try to feed him and he stopped eating much altogether. He eats 1-3 oz every 4 hours. He cries because he's hungry but when I feed him he cries even more. His sleep is suffering from this too.
My baby even starts to vomit after 2-3oz pretty often and makes a disgusted face.

He doesn't have a rash though... So maybe not alleregy? Idk. I dread the feeding times...
