Is this a cold sore?

My little girl is only two. I don't suffer with cold sores but her dad does.

She had a tiny bump on her lip yesterday which I asked her about and she said she had fallen over at nursery, she also had a small splinter in her hand so I assumed that was it. However it's much bigger this afternoon and looks a bit like a cold sore too me.

Any one have any idea if it looks like one?

From the photo, sorry to say but yes, it does look like one. I got my first sore at 4 years old (my parents both get them….however my brother doesn’t so some people are immune) I would go to the pharmacy for advice as not sure if cold sore remedies are ok due to her age. The main thing is that she doesn’t touch or pick it and probably best to make sure she washes her hands regularly as they can spread quite easily.

Thank you @NewBeginning39 I'll take her to the chemist tomorrow Sad

Treatment is more effective the sooner it starts, is there any chance you could take her this afternoon?

@choosername1234 ahhh. Thank you, I'll take her when she gets up from her nap.

Looks like it. Either tell her not touch it and wash her hands if she does and wait for it to run its course or put a compeed cold sore patch on ( it says children can wear them online) and just change it when it comes off in the bath. I get them all the time and I do the latter -they usually heal within 4 days doing it this way

Plus no risk of her spreading it with the patch!

Aww yes definitely looks like a cold sore, I have one too atm. As she is so little, I would call GP and see if a prescription can be issued, as your DD may need a milder strength of treatment, than usual OTC creams.

Or hand foot and mouth

Agree it looks like a coldsore. Compeed patches are amazing, only thing that have ever worked for me :) They stop them developing further (for me anyway) so i often avoid the blister stage completely. My 3.5 year old (and 5 month old) are so far not afflicted with them, a minor miracle given how many I get when run down!
