Bed time noise machine for a 5 year old

Hi,

I'm looking for recommendations for a machine that plays rainforest noises or similar for my DS5.

Long story short, he's always found it hard to go asleep and has now developed a fear of the dark and monsters etc, which I know is totally normal, but it's horrible seeing him so upset :( my DD3 still has her Ewan which she has loved since she was tiny and I asked DS if he thought one of those would help and he seemed pretty keen on something similar, but says he doesn't like Ewans noises.

So any recommendations for night noise machines that I could try?

Thanks in advance x

You can literally just get a bog standard one from Amazon for a tenner.

Alexa will play these if you ask. Also can download onto an iphone app - not saying they should have an iphone just could use yours till they're asleep or you could use an old one.

Yoto audiobook player is great, as well as stories we play 'sleep radio' through it which is lovely soothing music.

We’ve just bought a 2nd kids Alexa for this reason, ds1 loves his so got one for ds2 they’re hugely reduced on prime atm!

Our DD also 5 has a CD player in her room and lots of CDs bought at charity shops for this exact reason. She doesn't listen to rainforest noises though, she prefers the Go Gos and Buddy Holly. 😂

We've got a yoto for audiobooks

LargeBadSwanCollider · 13/07/2022 07:56

As other pps have said, Alexa and then play any of the myriad of audiobooks, albums or podcasts through that.
Ive recently discovered brown noise, as opposed to white noise, which I find the most calming of all the sound baths available.

My 4.5 year old uses his tonie box to listen to audiobooks as he goes to sleep. You can get tonies with sleep sounds and lullabies too. He absolutely loves it.

Dreamegg has a nightlight as well as sounds if that helps with the scared of dark stuff.

Miriam101 · 13/07/2022 15:52

We have the Yoto. A little pricey but she loves it and listens to audiobooks every night before she falls asleep (which at the moment is taking a LONG time because of the light- roll on September!!)

I have a cheap BT video baby monitor that i got second hand, that plays sounds and projects stars and planets onto the ceiling, helps my 5yr old, managed to wean her off all other forms of nightlight but this one is staying, it helps focus her mind watching the stars.

DD needs noise to sleep, I got her an Alexa because it was so much easier than something that specifically plays whale noises...

Aquamarine1029 · 13/07/2022 16:07

Alexa/Echo Dot. I play thunderstorm sounds on mine every night. Love it.

SpaceJamtart · 13/07/2022 16:10

Mine have a very old simless phone with spotify on, Steven Hilton music 1st then some brown noise.
Also use it in the day for fun music

Watchthesunrise · 13/07/2022 16:50

Yeah Alexa. Or an iPad with YouTube.
