Keeping sandpit clean

Really grossed out. Was as playing with my little boy before in his sand pit and found loads of brown egg type things in it which Im guessing might be fly eggs. Its made me feel sick. Will change the sand now before he plays in it again. How do people keep these things clean? The sand was dry only about a month old and we always put the lid back on each night.

Watering can with water and dettol in it. I used to do it twice a week.

Really have never heard this before.

I have heard mixing a bit of cinnamon in it keeps bugs out. I’m going to try this.
