Urgent - is this chickenpox?

Please help and sorry for being so demanding! Does this look like chicken pox? We are due to see my immunosuppresed uncle today and not sure if this is it or not. LO is 13 months and has had a bit of a temp and a cough the last few days. He seems right as rain today but has spots. Would welcome opinions and of course if there’s any doubt we will stay away from family. Thank you.

Yes, quite possibly. Obviously I can't say for sure but it certainly looks similar to how my DC started with it. Although it does usually start on the back or chest/tummy.

I wouldn't especially as he's been ill recently anyway, not worth the risk.

Flubadubba · 04/07/2022 08:22

Looks like it.

He has similar on his back and tummy, this is the best picture I could get from the little wriggler though. If you look closely you can see one above his belly button. Oh heck!

I think it's safest to postpone. Your little one has been fighting something off recently (indicated by the temperature and cough) which presumably you wouldn't want to pass on anyway?

Personally I'd say the photos look like a little reaction to something or a small spot (my baby gets these sometimes), however they could also be the start of chickenpox (keep an eye out for more developing and then turning into blisters). I wouldn't risk it!

Just seen your update. If there are more on the back and tummy I'd say it's more likely to be chicken pox!

Ah welcome to the club my friend...yep that is how it starts. Off to the chemist for some calamine, the drowsy kids antihistamine and original head and shoulders for you (honest to god its magic! Use as body wash and bubble bath and just sit them in the bath for a bit)

Good luck!!

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 04/07/2022 08:35

Calamine is not longer recommended.

Yodaisawally · 04/07/2022 08:38

Looks like it tbh

Calamine is not longer recommended.

DD had chicken pox just before Christmas and the pharmacist recommended calamine, albeit cream as more effective than lotion.

If it is chicken pox then oat baths or baking soda in the bath is good for the itching (the itching kicked in on day 2/3 for DD).

Also paracetamol, not ibuprofen if he needs it.

Thank you everyone. DH is popping back in his lunch break with supplies. Looks like a long week at home for us!

From the dot above the tummy button I'd err on side of caution and say yes. Sorry Op!
