Toddler scared of pooping - any tips?

my DS (2.5) was potty trained a few weeks ago, and has been doing so well with wees. He used to poop once a day first thing In the morning so we didn’t get the chance to practice with poop for a while. Over the last 1-2 weeks he has become terrified to poop - he’ll try to hold it in all day (crying on and off with sharts) and then will have a meltdown when it finally happens - this now happens at night too when he’s wearing his nighttime nappy- he’ll wake up in tears if he needs to go but still hold it in.
it’s actually got to the point where he refuses to sit on the toilet at all and so has started having some wee wee accidents.

any tips at all? I’ve tried giving him choc and praise, we’ve tried showing him us going and waving bye bye to the poop, nothing appears to be helping.

thanks so much if anyone has any tips or experience
