DH still thinks we have to sit in the room with DS while he plays in the bath. whereas I get stuff done while he's in there. (my kitchen is right beside the bathroom.)
he's 2.4

It's only recently that I've been doing this and dd is 4.5. Even then I'm constantly calling out to check she's OK, or talking to her and our kitchen is adjacent to the bathroom! I wouldn't go upstairs and leave her.

But I'm a little paranoid around water as I'm an ex lifeguard and have taught water safety for years!

I bath mine seperately (at dd's insistance(6)). She has a bath in her bathroom, unsupervised whilst I bath ds (3) in his supervised 100% because otherwise the entire contents of the bath would be on the floor! Once ds is out dried and dressed I pop into dd's bathroom and wash her and her hair then she getts herself out dried and dressed, brings her hairbrush down and we tackle the tangles.

Both bathrooms are on the same floor so I can hear/speak to dd whilst I am in with ds.

can't remember but what I used to do (and still do) is set off a song, something annoying and long like 10 Green Bottles

then you can hear them warbling along and know that if they are singing, they must be ok

DS is 5.5 and I still stay upstairs, actually as we have an en-suite I take the chance to lie on the bed and read a couple of pages of a book!

until recently i bathed my 2.9 and 4.9 yo's together and couldn't leave them as it would result in either murder or an empty bath and SOAKING bathroom!

DS1 is relatively unsupervised now, he plays noisily and everything in our house is on the one floor except the kitchen so am never far away.

DS2 i will leave for a few mins at a time to get a towel or something. He plays a horrible game where he splashes lots and then goes still ...scares teh crap out of me!!

nappyaddict · 26/09/2008 18:20

i have left ds from when he could sit up to pop in and out to get stuff. he's 2.2 now and

i would probably leave him at about 4 to go downstairs.

oops wrong thread

if they sing in the bath this is excellent

all you need to do is stay within earshot

whilst they sing they must be OK!
