My (almost) 9 year old son wants to have his ear pierced. I think I might let him have it done for his 9th birthday.

Any advice on best place to take him and am I mad for letting him? anyone elses son have a pierced ear?

dontcallmehun... "He'll look like a little thug" are you serious? he wants an earring not a knuckle duster and macchette ffs.

That's a bit harsh don'tcallmehun - it depends on how their hair is etc and it is all a matter of personal preference anyway.

My friend's son had it done at 10/11 but he had longish hair and just looked rather cool IMO.

If you really want to then take him to a proper body piercer's as to avoid the risk of cauliflower ear a tube of flesh needs to be remove to allow the jewelry through not just the use of a gun to punch the jewelry through.
Good luck tho, whatever you do.

I agree with DontCallMeHun. I just ask DS1 if he would like his ear pierced, and he said "er no, Gross! Who would want that?"

Smug

He won't look too thug like though, if he has some highlights.

I think 9 is far too young personally. I made dd1 wait until she was 11 and dd2 now has to do the same. I think small boys with their ears pierced look so wrong and Im really trying to avoid saying words which may be upsetting; others have said them earlier though. I'd make him wait and make it a real rite of passage in a few years' time, if he still wants it then. In the meantime, I'd let him express himself through clothes and, if he has to, wristbands etc.

I have girls - but not until you leave primary school is my rule for them. I would say the same to a boy.

I think Piercings look awful on young children, girls as well as boys. I would make him wait until he's a teenager.

However, if you are going to let him, i would take him to a specialist piercing place.
