Feel like worst mum

Was bf-ing 8 week old DD and on the phone to my husband having a row at the time (just silly bickering about the car). Looked down after the end of phonecall and was gripping babies' head extra hard to bf her. No marks or anything but feel awful that losing my temper was taken out on her 😔 has anyone ever done similar or am I awful. Feel horrendous.

Is she your first? Last week I bumped baby DD into the same doorframe twice in 10 minutes. She's fine. Babies are tough.

Try to relax.

ArseyDarcie · 28/06/2022 15:12

Yes DD is my first! Thanks for responding. Scared myself as it was my temper/carelessness which caused it.

Just wait until your drop your phone on her head when feeding her.

Ooooh DS got his head whacked off a banister (yes I cried hysterically. Yes he was fine).

My DD is just over 4 months. She was in the wrap last week and I stupidly took a sip of coffee (I don’t usually drink while she’s in the wrap) she jolted backwards as she tends to do and got a dribble of coffee right down the side of her face. I was horrified! Immediately started screaming even though she barely reacted and the coffee was at least 15 minutes old!
Feels awful when something like this happens but it happens. Don’t be too hard on yourself

ArseyDarcie · 28/06/2022 19:19

Thank you everyone. I just feel extra bad because although it was an accident like all the events you have described it was also partially caused because I was angry. Thinking that I'd lost control near her has scared me IYSWIM.

I take it she was still feeding? If it had been nearly as hard as you're probably imagining she'd have let you know she wasn't comfy!

ArseyDarcie · 29/06/2022 11:16

@hardbackwriter yes she was - she didn't stir or anything

Then I'm certain that while it might have felt very strong and terrible and guilt-inducing to you, the difference in how you held her as you got wound up was imperceptible to her; all she'd have felt was a nice milky cuddle with mummy, like normal 😊

Schmz · 29/06/2022 15:36

She would have let you know if she was feeling uncomfortable!!

I once had my baby dd in a sling and was dancing round the kitchen to the radio all happy

then convinced myself I had given dd a brain injury by dancing / jiggling!!!!

its stressful being a new mum !!!

😂😂😂 yes more than once!

Azandme · 29/06/2022 20:35

You aren't the "worst mum" - you're a mum, just like the rest of us.

We don't always get it right.

The fact you are so upset about something your baby didn't even notice is proof you're a good mum.

Yep!

Also icecream... 😁

Sleepingsatellite1 · 29/06/2022 20:37

The baby would definitely have let you know if something was up, don’t beat yourself up.

I know this is an old thread but 👆🏻I’m glad it’s not just me that did this! 🙈

Brandymakesmerandy · 23/11/2022 15:20

If you haven't dropped your phone on her yet in 8 weeks I reckon you're doing fine 😉

Heatherjayne1972 · 25/11/2022 06:31

I forgot to strap my baby into to the pushchair on two occasions
she fell right out both times
I felt terrible
she’s 20 now. And perfectly fine

they are quite hardy

Confusedandperplexed · 25/11/2022 08:33

She’d have let you know if you were hurting her!
