Paddling pool with hard sides?

I’m sick of buying paddling pools every year only for them to get a puncture. Has anyone ever bought a rigid paddling pool with any success? Like those dog splash pools you can get? I have a 2yo and a 4yo, are there any safety considerations I’ve missed? Cheers.

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for paddling pool recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best paddling pool page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their kids. We hope you find it useful.

We have a rigid plastic sandpit with a lid and use that as a paddling pool. Full beach vibes in our garden!

I have one. It's brilliant - no punctures and stored away really well over the winter. Just make sure it says suitable for kids.

Just get one of the dog ones! Our dog had one last year and it was great but he was still a puppy so he chewed it up 🙈.

Why would it need to say suitable for kids out of interest - wouldn’t any large and rigid plastic structure work?

Ours isn't rigid but it has a metal frame that holds up the paddling pool material. We've had it for two years and not been punctured. We've got a 4 year old, 2 year old, six month old and a crazy border terrier who haven't managed to destroy it. Yet...

We used to have padding pools like that when I was little-like an octagon shape with fold out rigid sides and a thin liner bottom with a plug. They lasted forever! I wonder why they aren’t made routinely any more?

We have a hard plastic one. Bought second hand 11 years ago and still going strong!

I was coming on to suggest a dog one! We have my aunt's dog's hand-me-down. It's not as cute as some of the paddling pools you can get but it lasts. I love it.
