HV is getting on my nerves.

So today my DS who is 16m had his weight review. The last time he was weighted when he just turned 12m and his weight was 11.8kg, that’s around 26lbs That time she said he’s off the charts but nothing to worry about.
So today he had his review. First of all she weighted him with all the shoes, nappy and toy in his hands and made him stand up. Obviously every step and every movement he made the weight changed. So at the end she had 12.2kg or 26.8lbs.
Well apparently he’s a bit on the heavy side and we have to keep checking what he’s eating and maybe cut something. She didn’t even checked his hight in comparison to weight. Made me feel a bit shit with her remarks.
TBH I don’t know how tall is he, 80ish sometimes cm. For reference he’s wearing 2-3y size bodysuit because the smaller ones are too short around nappy area. And 12-18m trousers but even then they have a room.
Hes already eating like a bird most of the time so obviously I don’t want to and can’t cut anything.
All I can see is normal toddler IMO.

Oh and now he will have to review his weight every 3 months…

He looks absolutely fine and the HV probably thinks so too, however it will flag in the system and they are forced to show they are doing something. Just to defend the HV (I am not one) it’s the system not them most of the time and a tick box exercise set by the government.

Inthesameboatatmo · 22/06/2022 20:25

Honestly don't bother going anymore op it's not illegal. There is absolutely nothing wrong he's fine.

Height vs (naked) weight to get accurate figures. HV’s are generally idiots.

DS has always been off the charts. As a baby he was sooo chubby and had loads of rolls. But at your DS's age he looked like him. Very tall and broad but not chubby at all, he'll probably just be tall. DS is very tall for his age now at 3, is in size 10/11 shoes and 4/5 clothes, towers over most of the kids in nursery but I still have to take his clothes in at the waist because there's nothing of him! His weight is still high for his age but his bmi is fine because his height is taken into account for that. As pp said the service is voluntary, just smile and nod!

lavenderfine · 22/06/2022 20:41

Also if you can do his height you can work out his predicted height from the growth chart in his red book. DS's is 6ft6 🙈 very aware that this kid is gonna cost me a fortune in clothes and shoes! Start saving now if yours is anything like mine!

sakuramiyagi · 22/06/2022 20:57

I think he looks absolutely perfect.

Just ignore the HV, they are generally useless. You know your baby more than anyone else.

newhere989 · 13/07/2022 16:22

It's clear that he is not even chubby. I have met HVs who are kind of moronic 🙈 I wouldn't be surprised if she has miscalculated some or all of the weights she has taken.

KittyEmK · 13/07/2022 17:02

HV's don't know anything! They certainly shouldn't be advising you to reduce his food intake without referring you to a GP or other service! Ignore her and get a second opinion (if you're worried at all)

Thank you all of a bit a peace of mind!
I guess my only problem is the ability to say NO and refuse the next weight visits.
