10.5 month old refusing food

My 10.5 month old son has started to refuse near enough every meal I make him…it’s exhausting & not to mention expensive as I’m wasting so much food. I try as much as I can to offer finger foods as he eats better this way but it’s not always possible. This morning I realised the bread I had was off so couldn’t make him toast. He then refused weetabix and porridge 🫣 if he does eat he takes the first few spoonfuls and then that’s him, he’s not making up for it with milk either so I’m really concerned. Anyone ever been through this? And have advice on what to do? He is also teething but this is his 4th tooth to cut through and he’s never refused his meals before 🥲 TIA

There's a saying 'food before one is just for fun'. Try not to worry too much - your baby will eat more when he feels hungry or goes through a growth spurt. It's worrying when they stop eating but you probably need to roll with it. Don't look worried, don't react, just offer the food and smile 😊 don't offer too many different things either, one breakfast is probably enough!

Unless of course, it goes on for ages and doesn't improve. Then seek help!!!!

Hi OP there are loads of great resources on solidstarts.com about this sort of thing. It sounds like it could be due to the teething, and hopefully just a phase, especially at 10 months I don't think they can really be 'picky' so it's usually something else going on (teeth, illness, tired etc)
As PP said, keep doing what you're doing, don't make a big deal and don't keep offering lots of different foods until he eats something. Stick with what's 'on the menu'.

Good luck!

Teething, tonsillitis, some unspecified sore throat..? Ice cream was the only thing my 1y old would have during a tonsillitis bout.

Thanks everyone 🥰 it’s definitely down to teething as I’ve noticed one of his top teeth is just underneath the gum. He has been a bit better today & taking lots more milk so all is well again. It’s just so stressful when they don’t eat isn’t it 🥲 x
