8 month old not eating solids, help??

Hi

So my 8 month old has been on solids since 6 months. He took to it straight away and has been eating 2 good meals a day. I.e full bowl of porridge and a banana for breakfast, then scrambled egg and avocado with yoghurt for afters for example.

We were just starting to think about moving to 3 meals a day, but his bottom two teeth have erupted and ever since he's refused all food point blank. All he wants is his milk, which I'm giving him and he's back to just wanting 5 bottles a day and no food whatsoever. I've tried offering simple food like cool yoghurt for his teeth etc, but he just cries.

He has baby nurofen for the pain and Ashton parsons teething gel. He's still sleeping through the night and having lots of milk, but just feel like it's a big step back to pretty much no food. Will it be OK to be on milk only until he feels better and then reintroduce? He cries as soon as he's put in his high chair 😩 just confused on how to approach food for now . Has anyone gone through this? :/

Thanks x

Hi OP

This is completely normal. If he wants milk then give milk but still offer food. My daughter is and was the same, the teething is very distressing and difficult for babies it really messes up their routines. Milk should still be given at your
babies age as it is going to be his main source of food.

It is best to just play it by ear, while they are going through those stages.

What's the rush? Mine were breastmilk only until at least 9 months.

I found cucumber a big help when mine were teething. Chilled and soothing.

He’ll get back to eating when he feels better.

He's just feeling poorly.

He'll fall back to milk as a preferred food for the next few years when feeling poorly. Don't fret :)

When you're feeling poorly you probably don't want to eat much, or sit at the table etc.

You possibly just want to eat very little and if you do, just basic food like toast on the sofa etc.

Your baby is the same :)

Because by 6 months they need more than just breast milk!

his bottom two teeth have erupted and ever since he's refused all food point blank when did this happen, how long has he been refusing food?

Totally normal btw, just let him eat or not.

'Food before one is just for fun' was the slogan I remember.

Because by 6 months they need more than just breast milk!

And introducing allergens earlier can help avoid allergies later on.
