How to cut toddlers nap?

Hi all.
I have a 2.5 year old toddler. He has never ever been a great sleeper since the day he was born. But anyway he has took a day time nap since no age usually goes down at 12 and wakes at 2. However it is becoming increasingly difficult to get him to sleep earlier now he usually went to sleep around 9pm (not a chance would he go earlier) but now when we take him to bed at 8.30 he isn't falling asleep to 10 almost every night which is just far too late as I have my 8mo in bed every night at 7. I have tried cutting his day time nap but when I try and do this he always ends up falling asleep around 1.30 no matter how hard I try to keep him awake even if he sleeps for 15 minutes he is still so hard to get to sleep at night. How do I cut this nap????

He doesn't sound like he's ready to drop it yet. Can you bring it forward at all to 11/11.30?

We had the exact same thing. Chances to length and time of nap made no difference. Tried to drop the nap and she'd fall asleep in the pushchair on a long dog walk. Then a few weeks later we tried again and since then she's been totally fine all day and asleep at 7pm. I think sometimes there is a weird inbetween phase.

Wake him up earlier. So put him down at 12 and wake at 1. He really shouldn't then fall back to sleep at 1.30.

This is what we do.
