Croup getting worse on day 4

Hi my 2.2 year old started with a typical ‘croup’ cough in the very early hours of Friday night, he wasn’t coughing a lot but when he did cough it was barking and croup like (he’s had it before). We muddled through and he was fine in himself other than a bit of a cough. He had a sporadic high temp a few times (mostly overnight) that came down with calpol.

We went to the doctors yesterday to double check there was no chest infection and she said it was all fine and definitely croup. He seemed to be improving yesterday and had no temp all day nor last night and coughing was getting less and less, however today (Tuesday) since afternoon he’s coughed constantly more than any of the last few days and now he’s got a temp again.

Has anyone else had this with croup? I just felt like we were getting somewhere and now we’ve took several steps back today.

No the doctor didn’t prescribe anything she said he was fine as he was, although he seems a little worse today than yesterday which is what I’m concerned about as it seems odd got get worse on day 4.

He’s fine in himself mostly just tired from the constant coughing today. He’s eating and drinking and playing as usual and not struggling to breathe as such, just a very very stubborn and frequent cough and a sporadic temp.

My lil one gets it bad. The first time under age 1 & looked limp/dead in August (its not just a winter thing)".

Don't call 111, done this & they told me to give him honey then I ended up in hospital for a few days, if the cough appears and breathing is not normal don't go to the GP. Go straight to A&E
& get the steroid mediation, nebs machine might be needed. My kid normally has 2 x shots of the dex.

Cool air helps with the cough, at home/outside in the car etc. An ambulance can't give the "meds/steriods/dex" that they need.

tip: I have yogurts pouches at home in the fridge always they help he cough must helps the swelling & keeps them hydrated & doesn't hurt them when swallowing.
