My toddler has had a fever of 40 degrees for the last two days and vomited once , I’ve taken him to the GP today who said she thinks it’s viral. He is the most lethargic I’ve ever seen him sleeping most of the day very weak unable to play, not eating. Drinking fine , temp has been coming down only with ibruprofen calpol doesn’t work.

Hes just been asleep for a few hours and when he woke up he was absolutely drenched in sweat and felt cold? He was acting so strange slurred speech body shaking crying I took his temp 35.3?
I’m starting to feel very worried ? I know I have a habit of panicking but I’ve never seen him like this.

Honestly - I'd go straight to A&E. Low temperature could be an indicator of sepsis. If you call 111 they'll tell you to go anyway. Get in the car and go

You'd be more than reasonable to take him to A and E to be checked over - tricky for GP's who only get to see a 10 min snapshot.

A&E, now.

A and E. If you cant get there ring 999 and say you think he has spesis. You must not wait.

Hugasauras · 13/06/2022 15:57

Yep, A&E. Very low temp, slurring words and behaving oddly are massive red flags. A&E if you can get there immediately or 999 if not. And I'm on the v laid back end of things re: child illnesses generally.

It’s gone back up to normal temp now been about 30 minutes since he woke up like that could it still be sepsis ? he will just not get out of bed he’s so lethargic.

I think il take him he’s had so many viruses and he’s never been like this

I'd definitely still take him. The risk isn't worth it.

MolliciousIntent · 13/06/2022 20:30

I really hope that the lack of update is because you're at A&E now.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 13/06/2022 20:32

Very worrying. Go to A and E. Hope he is feeling better soon. Xxx
