Does teething cause baby to wake up more iyo?

This is my second baby but I feel like I blamed a lot of sleeping issues on teething with my first! Ds is teething and he is waking more than he was. Although this could be 4 month sleep regression a bit late. I hear of some babies who never wake up due to teeth. Curious what you all think!

F* yes. My boy kept getting one tooth after another and didn't sleep for almost 2 months. Had 8 teeth by the end of it (started the period with 0)

@Sbena jeez that sounds like a rough few months!

Definitely has an impact! But usually for us it’s one or two nights at a time, right before a tooth breaks through, not for months on end. Weeks/months sounds more behavioural to me, like they’re in the habit of waking up rather than having a need to wake up.

Yes, definitely. Mine was a good sleeper except when he was teething (or ill). Stopped waking in the night once all his teeth were through.

It depends on the baby, they're all different. One of mine would struggle to get off to sleep and wake constantly to comfort feed the whole time which was utterly gruelling and relentless. The other would have big, deep sleeps when teething in the same way they do when they're ill now that they're a bit older.

Hang in there, this too shall pass!

My LO would wake up so much while teething and it would get worse and worse until the tooth finally broke through then he'd go back to sleeping all night!

BlueChampagne · 13/06/2022 13:33

Hell yeah! DS2 only started sleeping through once he had all his teeth. All praise the power of coffee 😀

Really interesting. Thanks everyone. At least with a 2nd baby you know you will sleep again eventually...!😴
