Potty training help! Do I give up?

DS is 2.6 and we started trying to potty train 2days ago. He has a top on but naked from waist down. He will happily sit on potty at random intervals (on his terms, not ours) but will not sit on it for wee or poos (usually only does one poo a day at 6am so no poo accidents yet). We started trying to encourage him to the potty when he’d start weeing - not a chance. Now we try and move the potty to him / lifting him to it whe he starts but this makes him go from some tears to utter histeria. No progress now on day 3 - is there any point in persisting? We have a 5 month old and were keen to try before he got too mobile . Thanks

If there's nothing going into the potty at this point I'd probably give it a break for a couple of months & try again. It's so hard isn't it?! You could leave the potty out & see if he'll take an interest (before bath/getting dressed etc). Also you could buy a step toilet seat & see if he'd prefer toilet to potty?

Also have you tried the chocolate button bribery method?

My DS was hopeless at potty training at this age. We waited til he was 3.5 and he took to it brilliantly then (using kids toilet seat and step instead of a potty). Give it a week and see if his behaviour changes at all but otherwise I agree; give up and try again later.

My son used the toilet for a wee - maybe try him standing on a stool.

Thanks all. Will persevere today and maybe give up for another couple of months. He needs to be trained before he’s 3 for his nursery so hopefully something changes!
we’ve even demonstrated using the potty and he’ll tell us well done!
