Looking a bit of advice. Lo currently attends a small mainstream primary school and has another year to do before secondary school. He’s getting on really well here teachers, are great and classes are small in number, and he has a classroom assistant. Been thinking a lot about secondary school recently and I’m not sure if I should send him to a mainstream school or special school. He has autism, is being assessed for ADHD and has difficulty walking due to a deformity in both legs which he’s had from birth, and we have been told this condition is likely to worsen as he grows as surgeries have not helped. I worry about sending him to a mainstream school mainly because of his autism he acts like a much younger child and I’m worried that the other children will bully him. However I’m wondering would he get a proper education at a special school? Do they follow the same curriculum? They tested his IQ and have said he is only slightly below average
So I think he could get a good education if given the chance. There are mainstream schools nearby that have autism units so that is another option but think I’m swaying more towards sens school. Anyone have any experience of sens school vs mainstream?
