Do freckles change in childhood

My 2 year old has a freckle(?) on the side of his head above his ear near his temple, it started as a light brown tiny tiny dot that I first noticed last summer and it’s now dark brown and whilst still tiny, not as tiny as it used to be (it was literally a pin prick when I first noticed it and now it’s a little bigger.

It’s perfectly round and flat and I find it hard to imagine it’s sun damage as it’s under mounds of hair all day and I’m super on it with sun cream and hats. However it has definitely got darker and a little bit bigger in the last 12 months. I’ve monitored it and I don’t think it’s grown at all in the last few months.

I really do not want to waste dr time I am aware I’m an extremely anxious mum, do freckles grow along with the child? I have a birth mark sort of grew as I grew in childhood. It just seems very obvious to me as it’s his only freckle.

Yes freckles definitely get darker and more obvious over time especially at this age. My 3yo had about 3 the year he turned 2, a sprinkling when he turned 3 and this year (nearly 4) they are darker and more obvious. They also show up more in the summer when it's sunny. He wears sun cream, sun hats etc but my husband and I both have freckles so we expected him to get them as well.

Freckles grow and appear after being in the sun

Of course they grow and darken as kids grow, they're they're reaction to the sun, you don't see new babies born with them!
