Bottle fed baby- clicking issue

I'm looking for advice for my DD. She's 4 weeks old and bottle fed on formula. At ever feed she is constantly making a clicking noise which means she's letting lots of air in. Unfortunately she is suffering from really bad wind because of this and bad colic. Resulting in hours of crying and fussiness.

Currently using MAM anti colic bottles but have also tried Nuk and still clicking.

Has anyone had the same issue? Any advice or tips for handling it?

Have you considered Dr Browns?

Also try winding her halfway through a feed and feeding more upright maybe?

Quinn26 · 07/06/2022 09:35

Thanks for your reply @whattodowhat yeah I wind her half way and keep her upright.

I was looking at Dr Brown's this morning so I might give them a go

Has she been checked for tongue tie?

lilroo87 · 07/06/2022 09:46

Was going to say same as PP, sounds like it could be a tongue tie. Can only really be checked by a specialist as it can be missed by midwives/HV.

Sounds like she may have a tongue tie. Unfortunately you are unlikely to get it treated as you are FF (it’s hard enough to get it done even if you are BF!)

My suggestions would be the same as pp - try different bottles, and wind regularly during feeds, not just at the end. It will get better as she gets older when they get better at bringing up the wind.

minipie · 07/06/2022 09:47

Sorry meant to say - you can get it snipped privately if you are able to pay.

@Quinn26 - experiencing a similar issue to you with clicking on mam bottles. Did you find anything that helped to resolve this? X

Quinn26 · 29/11/2022 18:38

Hi @poppet131 I ended up trying a couple if other brands Nuk and Dr Brown's but she preferred the MAM bottles.

It was pretty much down to her latch as she clicked on the others as well, I just persevered with MAM and eventually it just resolved and she's had no issues since.

Apologies if I'm not much help x

@poppet131 try flipping your baby's lower lip down whilst feeding, often it can be tucked inside which can affect the latch (as well as a tongue tie).

Otherwise as they get older and their mouths get bigger you'll often find it fixes itself!

My baby was exactly the same. Bottle fed from birth. Wind was such an issue for us for ages because of it.
We actually settled on the tommee tippee anti colic bottles and it vascular resolved itself at about 14/15 weeks
Until then, was just lots and lots of burping him and gripe water to get the wind out

Cluelessfirstimer · 30/11/2022 21:59

No idea why they came up as vascular...! Should have said basically

poppet131 · 09/12/2022 17:28

Thanks so much, that’s reassuring to know it’s resolved itself now. @Quinn26 How long did it take to resolve itself? Did your little one have a tongue tie and if so, did you get it snipped? X
