Almost 7mo can't roll or sit well yet

My son is a week off 7months. He is a big chap almost 23lb and he's very long in the body. He is happy and well apart from his cmpa but I am starting to get concerned that he hasn't rolled yet and he is still quite floppy when you try to get him into a sitting position.

He hates tummy time and will only tolerate it for a few minutes. We have tried him in a bumbo seat and he leans forward or right over to one side and looks like he is going to tip out! He will sit in his IKEA highchair but we have to wedge him in with cushions and even then he sometimes leans over the edge.

Just wondering if anyone experienced similar with their big baby. My first son was not quite as big but he also rolled late and he went back to front, his sitting was much better however.

Ah don't worry. We have twins and at 7 months our girl was only just starting to roll. She is a little gymnast and at 9 is crawling, standing and never still.

Our boy is as you describe, a big gentle charmer. He didn't roll till 9 months and still mainly watches. There's nothing wrong with him, just a lot more body to work out.

I would normally say "don't worry, they all catch up" but you describe him as floppy. I would get that checked.

Wow he is a big lad isn’t he?!! I think it’s a bit early to be worrying about him not rolling or sitting up yet though. Maybe give him another month or so and then if he’s shown no progress no harm in getting him checked out.

Thanks everyone.

I say floppy, but its more leaning forward. He is very strong and will always reach for his feet, even in his highchair he leans forward with his chest against the tray section. I think he is just big and its hard work for him. I will see how we go.

I have a 98th centile (and very long) baby girl. She sat unaided at 7 months and one week and rolled both directions at 8 months. She's almost 9 months old now and can't get into a sitting by herself yet and doesn't like to stand with support. I do think it's a little trickier for bigger babies but I do know she'll get there in her own time!
