Hello everyone, my baby has been crying more often since a couple of days and has changed a lot. She used to sleep so well during the night but since 3 nights I am so exhausted because she wont sleep for hours as shes on the breast and only sleeps for 1-2 hours inbetween feeds. During the day she is not sleeping much either as she stays on the breast for 3-4 hours. Since about 3 days she looks like she gets pain when she sometimes is on the breast and gets relieved when she has a poo. Usually she has lots of dirty nappies but I think now she has difficulties getting her poo out as there is always little pieces and they look much more solid. I am seriously in need for advice as I dont want my baby to be in pain. I am breastfeeding her no bottle feed. We went to the hospital 2 days ago and I explained everything and they only said to carry on the infacol. I am using infacol and colief but not sure if they are helping...

How old is she?

How long is she crying for?

what do you mean her poo is more solid? Can you post a photo?

When she is on the breast for 3-4 hours is she definitely feeding?

How is her weight gain? Is she following her centile? Have you seen a qualified lactation consultant to rule out tongue tie?

You say she is sleeping less. What is actually happening? What are you doing to get her to sleep?

She is 27 days old.

She cries for a couple of minutes and gets off the breast even tho she wants to carry on feeding but gets very uncomfortable and moves her legs up and looks more red. I try to calm her down and then we carry on feeding.

So usually she would have a more liquid like poo and much more dirty nappies. She still has liquid like poos but not as often and she looks like shes struggling getting her poo out. I will attach a picture of her last nappy since yesterday evening.

She is following the 9th centile. She was a small baby and is putting on weight a bit slowly. She had her tongue tie cut when she was 1 week old.

So usually at night time I would feed her and she was sleeping for 3 hours and woke up another feed another 3 hours. But now she wakes up every 1-2 hours. She falls asleep on my breast only this has always been like this and this sometimes takes a couple of hours.

It’s so difficult when they are very little.

The most obvious thing is cluster feeding because she is about to have a growth spurt and infant dyschezia (normal development stage where they try to poo but close their anus at the same time and they just figure it out after a few weeks).

Colic is an hour of unexplained crying and it sounds more like she is just more alert.

I would contact LLL and local breastfeeding support to check latch and potentially be aware of allergy symptoms but as a Mum of children with allergies I don’t think that is what is happening here.
