Holiday abroad

So we are going abroad in august with our 2 year old and 3 year old dds.
Any must have or tips and tricks please?

We've been away with them both before but the youngest was only 5 months old so just mainly sat in the pram. Now we have 2 to dun around after!
I'm dreading it already but it's dh who wants to go away every year with them to "make memories"

Why are you dreading it? It’ll be brilliant.
make sure you have things to entertain them on the plane and transfer, that age can get bored easily so new toys / magazines etc colouring books, tablets if they have them. Change of clothes for the plane in hand luggage incase the toilet queues are busy and they have accidents. Lots of Snacks and baby wipes

take some snacks from home if they’re picky eaters and might not like some food abroad.
i always buy mine plain white T-shirts in a bigger size to Chuck on over shorts / swimming costume when the sun gets hot but that depends on where you’re going and how hot it’ll be. Are you taking a double pram? Holidays can be tiring for children; we took a double pram when our boys were that age and then you can still go out for dinner and a couple of drinks when they’re asleep as they can be in the pram.

Thanks for your reply some good tips there.
Just dreading the flight more than anything. It's 4 hours, we're going to Greece.

Last time we took the double and found it a bit tricky to get around places so we are taking 2 singles this time, mainly to use at night when they get tired after evening meal

On the plane take one new thing per hour. A little sticker sheet or mini figure. And snacks. Lots of snacks!

What time is the flight? We always pay for the early flights so that they sleep on the plane if it’s a longer flight. Could you do something earlier in the day to tire them out near the airport if you think they might get a bit fed up? The more they fly the more used to it they’ll be and it get easier.

The flight is an early one. It's 6am so we will have to leave for the airport about 1.30am. So they will most definitely be tired!

give your eldest a tablet for the flight and focus on the 2yr old and constraining them

take spare clothes on the flight but also for you (people forget the latter and I know of kids that have thrown up and spilt a drink on a parent)

Get them both a tablet, not just the older one! With headphones of course. But yes definitely to spare clothes for everyone (learned that one the hard the one).

Tablet for them both. My kids don’t sleep on planes. Did you book extra leg room seats, it worth it.

What kind of hotel are you stay at? What are you planning on doing? Lots of people, including me love AL because there is no travel time and everything is instant.

Get both kids to have a post lunch nap or quiet time.

Put them in UV suits at all times during the day so there is less sun cream area and it reduces the risk of missing bits.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/06/2022 09:01

Actually yes a tablet for both- we did Greece with a 2yr old- the tablet didn’t help much but worth a shot.

Thanks all.
We are staying in a self catering hotel which has a restaurant and snack bar open morning till night so should be ok for food when we are there.

They both do have tablets so will take them. Anyone recommend headphones for them and also any recommendations for swim vests/floats
