DS starts reception in Sept and DD will be 2 this summer. Up until now they have both been at nursery together but I’ve now realised just how easy that has been now I’m coordinating school times and wraparound care!
Breakfast club opens at 730am and after school club pick up is 500pm. Is this an awfully long day for a reception child? Do they manage, do they struggle?
The 7.30-5.00 set up would be 2 days per week. On day 3 it would just be breakfast club and I would collect from school at 3.00pm. Day 4 and 5 we couldn’t need any wraparound (I work part time).
Or would it be better for me to contract my hours and finish earlier so he would do breakfast club 7.30 drop off but I’d collect from school at 3.00pm? This set up would have to be 4 days per week at breakfast club.
What’s your experience? Do you need that extra time at the end of the day for homework etc? Is it better to aim to collect at the end of the day or is dropping off in the morning more important (thinking speaking to teachers etc)?
DD would be second drop off in the morning to her existing nursery and first collection at the end of the day.
We also have the option of a childminder to have them both and do school drop off and pick up! I’ve always swayed away from childminders due to being less reliable than nursery in terms of having to close for illness etc and having the little one strapped in the buggy 4x journeys a day for the school run. It’s also a 20 min walk to school from the childminder which I imagine is miserable in the rain (or am I just too soft?!) But perhaps this is the easiest option!
