So in the last week our DD, 8.5mo, has started crawling, pulling to stand and sitting up from lying down. And she has had three bumps so far - one in the cot after she pulled up on the bars, one when she somehow managed to pull a

Pull a drying rack onto herself and one when she fell forward against a kitchen cabinet, the last one caused a small bruise. She seemed absolutely fine after them, so I didn't call anyone, is this OK?

I try to keep my eye on her and move her away from potential hazards but she is so quick sometimes, and it's just me on my own looking after her so I have to wash up etc. Sometimes and my back is turned.

Any advice and should I worry about bumps to the head that don't seem to affect her at the time?

Bumps are fine and normal. Remember, she's not falling from very high, because she's so tiny! Generally speaking you only need to worry about a head injury in case of...

  • loss of consciousness
  • vomiting
  • dizziness/disorientation
  • prolonged/continued distress & pain

Also, now that she's mobile, you can't just plop her down and do the washing up etc anymore. If you're not able to give her your full attention, she needs to be in a safe, contained space. For us, that was either in the highchair next to me, or in the playpen.
