Baby clothes in day

We have a newborn and our house is quite warm, between 21-23 during the day. What would you dress her in? I’ve been doing a sleepsuit & vest but not sure if she should just be in one or the other rather than both. Also have a few rompers and not sure whether a vest is needed under those too and possibly socks??

Sounds fine to me, better on the cooler side than too warm. DD was born in July last year and was in a sleepsuit and vest most days until we had a heatwave when she was just in a nappy for about a week. Leggings and a short or long sleeve vest is also a good option as you can add a cardigan if you need to.

Hi OP, I have a 3 month old DS and it’s so tricky to know what to do in this weather isn’t it! I am generally dressing him in a romper or just a short or long sleeved vest during the day for hanging about the house - no trousers, socks or babygro. But he’s now a little chunk of a baby with plenty of warm fat on him! If he was still a newborn I would probably still have him in an extra layer like a sleepsuit - as you’re doing. I wouldn’t bother putting a vest under a romper - if you’re worried about her legs and feet getting chilly I would just stick with the sleepsuit and vest for now. I didn’t bother with rompers until he was about 2 months. There are just so many nappy changes in the early days that anything more than vest & sleepsuit was a faff!

How are you dressing her for sleep? There are some handy charts online explaining how to dress a baby under a sleeping bag, if you’re using one of those. My DS is in a long sleeved vest and a 1 tog bag atm and it’s 21 degrees. If it were over 22 degrees he’d be in a short sleeved vest. If you’re swaddling I think you just need to judge it with a finger to the chest and back and see if she feels a bit clammy - with a swaddle on too she might be fine in just the sleepsuit or the vest but won’t need both.

It’s a minefield isn’t it! Don’t worry too much though - as long as you’re not bundling her in hats and blankets indoors and checking temp on her back/chest and not her hands or feet, she’ll be ok whatever she’s in! Congrats on your baby 😊

I think that’s fine. Ds was born May and it was a hot summer, the first 2-3 months he was cold if not in a vest and sleepsuit even when warm. Often cardigan too.

leggings were handy for warm days as could dress in vest, socks, leggings and cardigan at 7am, then gradually take layers on and off as needed. Sometimes just vest and socks. Feet always got cold easily.
