Toddler won’t eat food

My toddler is usually a pretty okay eater. He’s open to trying new foods but the last few days he has been refusing to eat food, even the foods that he normally likes. I’ve noticed he will chew the food but wont swallow and will spit it out and sometimes he will gag like it’s making him feel sick. I’m not sure why he’s doing that. I am a little concerned. Should I take him to see the public health nurse? Is there anything I could try to help him?

Teething?
Throat infection?

Is he drinking OK? Seem OK in himself?

Is he well in himself?

What's his temp? First sign of something else going on

He is drinking water and milk absolutely fine. The last few days he has had a cough and it made him sick. Could it be he is scared to eat thinking he will be sick?

My 3 year old did this for 2 weeks and turned on he had tonsillitis. I would ask a doc to look in his throat.
