Bottle feeding struggles... anyone experience this?

I'm a first time mom to a wonderful 2.5 (almost 3) months old boy. However, since he turned 2 months old, I've been facing constant struggles with feeding him.

Would love to hear if anyone else out there went through this or how to fix it?

Baby is bottle fed only as my breast milk supply is low and nipples aren't great for latching.

Feeding issues include:

  • Not latching on to suck the bottle teat, almost like he's forgotten how to suck
  • Uses his tongue to loll the teat around
  • Gagging when bottle teat goes in, and voila, he spits up milk if there's any in him
  • Moves his head around when teat is in and sucking, which causes the bottle to come out.
  • Some meals he's so hungry he keeps asking for top ups. Other meals, he only takes 20ml to 50ml before rejecting or falling asleep
  • Can't seem to decipher his hunger cues. Which makes me second guess everything I'm doing.

I've read about bottle aversion and not pressuring the baby to drink (at least I hope im not). I'm feeding based on his cues, and wasting a lot of formula since he seems to have same cues for hunger and fussiness and sleepiness. I even adopted pace bottle feeding. I've also tried around 7 other brands of bottles before the "chosen one" that I'm using now.

Overall he's a happy and healthy baby but the feeding issue is a concern as its only gotten worse.

Does it get better? Am i feeding my baby incorrectly? Any help is greatly appreciated!
