Baby Not Crawling Yet

Hi!
My LO is 8.5 months, she’s not crawling yet but will get onto her knees and have her hands out ready as if she’s going to crawl but as soon as it looks like she is she goes flat on the floor then she pulls herself back up into the sitting position then does it all over again!
How can I help her? I put all her favourite toys in front of her and I sit by them encouraging her but not sure how else I can help her?
She’s also not pulling herself up on anything, she loves to hold my hands and walk around everywhere and she prefers to do that, if she got her balance right I’m sure she’d be walking! Haha
Only 3 out of 12 babies in our mummy and me group are crawling (all born around the same time) and most are pulling themselves up on the sofa and things, clapping hands, waving goodbye. She claps her hands every now and again and doesn’t wave goodbye yet. How can I encourage her or do I just let her figure it out?
Sorry for a long winded post!
Thanks :)

Be careful what you wish for! 8.5 months is still early and they will move when ready. If you insist on encouraging it try rolling balls or self propelling toys like pull back and go vehicles,

That is true haha! I keep thinking that, milestones are exciting so I get so excited when she goes to do it then she goes flat haha, also a bit worried too that she’s not reaching the milestones too in the ‘time frames’… that’s brilliant thank you I’ll try that :)

Just let her figure it out. Give her space and opportunity to play and explore. Children have a strong drive to move, play and explore and she'll figure it out as she goes. Don't compare to other children, they are all so wonderfully different. Unless you have medical concerns then that's different.

DS never crawled. He developed a bit of an army crawl and lots of rolling around. He was walking at 11 1/2 months. Really, don't worry about it.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 27/05/2022 11:32

Just give opportunities to pull up, move, sit, play etc. They need to figure it out themselves.

My eldest was a bum shuffler. Figured out walking before crawling. Youngest crawled at 5 months. They are all different and 8.5mpnths is young.

RandomQuest · 27/05/2022 11:34

My first was exactly the same at 8.5 months. In less than a month she just pulled herself up and started walking. Not all babies crawl!

Billandben444 · 27/05/2022 11:36

My son never crawled. He just sat in a heap and if something was out of his reach he'd fall forward on to it. He started pulling himself up just before a year and then tottered soon after. Be thankful you're not running round after him yet!

NoHeavenNoMore · 27/05/2022 11:38

My little girl was the same, getting very frustrated with lying on her stomach and not able to move anywhere. She started spinning round in circles and I knew she was getting close. Soo we stayed in the house for 3 days straight (usually she's in her pram for hours at a time every day) and she mastered it! Think she just needed loads of floor time and no rush to just practice. And now there's no stopping her 😂

Shmithecat2 · 27/05/2022 11:43

Ds didn't crawl until 10mo. Started walking at 13mo.

SecondhandTable · 27/05/2022 11:49

My eldest didn't crawl at all, she bum shuffled and even then not until she was 11 months old. Some babies don't crawl at all.

yyydelilah · 27/05/2022 11:59

My eldest was like an adorable potato until 14 months. Just sat wherever I put him. Didn't attempt to move. Late to crawling, late to walking and talking. He's four now and absolutely fine. He's just a chilled kid.

Youngest was full on walking by 10 months and at two talks like a for year old Shock

My point is they're all different and they all get where they're going at their own pace.

Don't sweat it 😉

CoodleMoodle · 27/05/2022 12:04

DD didn't crawl or even bum shuffle. She started walking at 11mo, confidently at 12mo. She couldn't crawl until she was nearly 2, and if she fell down she'd just stay there until someone helped her up!

DS crawled for a bit but one day he just got up and walked (around 1yo)! Wanted to follow his sister, I guess.

She'll get there, OP!

ShandaLear · 27/05/2022 12:09

Neither of mine crawled. They both hated being put on their tummies, and both started walking just before they were 1 year old. They’re both competitive gymnasts now, so really really don’t worry about her not crawling!

DinosaursEatMan · 27/05/2022 12:10

DC1 never crawled either, and couldn’t sit up without keeling over until after they learnt to walk. They rolled across the room to get to things then moved straight on to walking.

DinosaursEatMan · 27/05/2022 12:11

DC2 was a total shock, they learnt to crawl and climb furniture over one weekend! Such a contrast!

songbird20 · 27/05/2022 14:06

Thank you so much everyone! you’ve really all put my mind at ease thank you.
I’ll let her get on with it now and see how she goes! She’s nearly there but not quite yet!
I’m just a bit of a worrier anyways but this has really helped :)

Don't be anxious about any of it. They all catch up in the end.
Let her play on the floor and she will figure it out.
I've spent the whole morning chasing my 6 month old dgs, he started crawling a couple of weeks ago and I'm struggling to keep up with him. He's tipped the dog water all over himself twice this morning.
I've put him down for a nap. I'm bloody exhausted. Was so much easier before he was crawling.

TheGlitterati · 27/05/2022 14:40

My youngest didn’t crawl until 13 months. Don’t panic

Mrsmch123 · 27/05/2022 16:53

My boy just learnt to crawl. He's 11 months. He done the same...on to all fours then legs would flop out like a frog. He stopped that about a week ago. It honestly just takes them time to figure it out.

Iflyaway · 27/05/2022 16:59

OP, just swinging by to say my 30-year-old DS never crawled but was walking by his first birthday so please don't worry.

In fact, relax! Cos by the time they walk you'll need eyes in the back of your head. 😊
