yes all children's door closed

emkana · 12/01/2008 21:33

No and I wouldn't.

In fact, I don't even close the door on my dd's room, and they are six and four.

tassisssss · 12/01/2008 21:34

i would and have done

ScaryHairy · 12/01/2008 21:34

Yes. If my daughter cries we still hear her.

ChasingSquirrels · 12/01/2008 21:34

I did - ever since I read about a house fire where the young children died but the parents survived - because the childrens doors were open and the fire spread in more quickly.
Never had a monitor in use in the house, always been able to hear both of them (apart from in the utility room with the door shut and the washing machine on).

CarGirl · 12/01/2008 21:35

yes bedroom doors shut and they were on their own from a few days old! We have an open plan house so only have bedroom & bathroom doors, don't need a monitor and I could even hear whimpering sounds when I was asleep through 2 shut doors.

luckylady74 · 12/01/2008 21:35

i just can't sleep with an open door so i shut my kid's doors, but i had monitors before they could shout!

fingerwoman · 12/01/2008 21:36

yes, I close the door to our room when my 11 week old is asleep in there. he is quite a light sleeper and wakes if there is too much noise.
we can hear him when he cries though

JingleyJen · 12/01/2008 21:38

yep we used to close DS1s door as well but he started having nightmares after some problems at school and now won't sleep with it closed.

Sexonlegs · 12/01/2008 21:40

We do, as we have 2 cats and they would quite happily go in and curl up with our dd's if their doors were open.

BettySpaghetti · 12/01/2008 21:46

All bedroom doors always shut here (due to a cat that would end up bothering everyone for food at 3 am )

robinredbreast · 12/01/2008 23:49

ah well dd woke up for an extra 10 mins after i posted, so when i put her back aftr she was cuddled back to sleep
i left the door open

w do not have a monitor,we would be able to hear her if she cries, i just like to be able to peek and make sure shes ok iykwim

Yes, with a baby monitor. More to cut down on light than noise though.

Acinonyx · 13/01/2008 10:36

No doors shut - neither ours nor dds (22.5) . Cats do wander and one occaisionally sleeps on her bed (but they scratch the doors if you shut them). I don't like closed doors and like to be able to pop in now and then and check on her.

Sometimes close her door during the day to keep the cats off her bed.

Misdee · 13/01/2008 10:40

i shut all doors at night. i am very aware of fire risks especially since we liv in a bungalow and a fire could whip through very quickly.

Acinonyx · 13/01/2008 14:02

We have smoke alarms - doesn't that help with fire risks?

Misdee · 13/01/2008 14:04

dh had a fire in his old house, the alarms didnt get a chance to go off as they melted in the heat.

Acinonyx · 13/01/2008 14:07

crikey!

hellish · 13/01/2008 14:07

No, I hate closed doors at night, I can't sleep with my bedroom door closed and I always leave dds' open too.

Misdee · 13/01/2008 14:11

i know Acon, its scary. MIL woke up when the fire extingiser blew up. they all got out by sliding down a roof at the back. i know we dont have that extra bit of time, and being on floor i make sure doors are shut at night. dd's tend to get up for a wee and dont shut their doors afterwards, but at least the kicthen and living room doors are shut all night.
