Newborn smell

Does anyone else not smell the newborn smell? I've just had DD2 and don't think she has an intoxicating newborn smell that I've read about, and I didn't think DD1 had it either. Neither of them smell/smelled like anything really.

Is it just me?

Didn’t happen for me either, although I did like the smell of them newly washed with nice baby soap.

Usually it was the eye watering stench of filled nappy that was their signature scent.

Both my dc had that indescribable newborn smell. It lasted for months and was stronger on my firstborn son than on DD.

I don’t know about natural baby smells, but babies used to smell of Johnson’s baby lotion and powder ( a long long time ago) which was a wonderful smell!

I'm immune to it but my friend would sit and sniff my child's head when he was born 🤣

My babies smelt like a baby version of my husband. I know that's weird but they did.

Oh I thought it was just me! I love the smell of ds now at 2yo but as a newborn no I just didn't get it . Maybe because he had bad cradle cap?

My little one was in the nicu, and sniffing her worn babygros definitely helped with pumping milk. Like another poster a midwife with strong perfume destroyed the smell after she'd held her 😢

DD smelt like ginger biscuits and DS and my niece both had a faintly herbal smell, a bit like very expensive moisturizer.

I've never smelt it on other people's newborns, in fact I always think they either smell of sick, milk or sweaty. But when I had DD she smelt absolutely amazing to me. I couldn't stop sniffing her for weeks!

Yes! Same! Some newborns I have held have smelt a little sweaty/greasy.

But DD had such a lovely smell I just couldn’t stop sniffing her head, she is 19 months and she still has this distinct smell! Even my parents say how lovely she smells compared to all the other grandchildren haha.

All three of mine had a lovely sort of warm, dreamy comforting smell. Sounds insane. I couldn’t put my finger in what it was exactly but iwas other worldly to me

probably my raging hormones😆
