What toys does your 3 year old love to play with?

My daughter loves books, puzzles, instruments and her play kitchen.

It's her 3rd birthday next month and I'm struggling to think of what actual toys to get her! So far it's mostly books and a toy recycling truck as she's into vehicles recently.

What does your 3 year old love playing with? I need inspiration!

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for toy or gift ideas for three-year-olds, we’ve recently updated our best toys for 3-year-olds page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their kids. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

A giant bubble maker, a toy lawn mower, anything paw patrol and a whiteboard/marker pens all much loved by my 3yr old.

Her dinosaur collection, her shop (that works well with kitchen too, as you buy your stuff at her shop and then she goes and cooks it for you Grin), her building stuff, just small world play generally with little figures and things, her cars and trains. Outside, her sandpit, we have various bubble things including giant bubble maker which is always a hit.

Magnet tiles! My son gets so much play out of them!

We have three different brands (Playmags, desire deluxe, and veg cow) all with the same sized tiles and they're all great. I'm pretty sure play mags and desire deluxe are the same as other than one saying Playmags and one not they're identical. The veg cow ones have a pretty pattern to the window bits. Also - I bought each set via Amazon warehouse for a much better price.

Other things he loves to play with are:

  • toy figures of sea creatures and water
  • paw patrol stuff
  • Grimm's wooden sets eg waves, caves, rainbows, balls, lotus flower, sun etc. He uses all the parts to build stuff or in small world play.
  • play dough and tools
  • the IKEA watercolour paint set. This is fab and I wish I'd bought one years ago. I love that the lid becomes a tray for water pots and painty paint brushes!
  • anything cat related. He's cat crazy. 🤣

Car mat to play with her cars on
Sticker books (we loooove stickers here)
Simple Lego if no younger siblings about to eat or destroy it
Any of the Orchard games (Shopping List and Bus Stop big hits here)
If you're going big, a Cosy Coupe car

All things loved here by my 3.5yo
