What age did your LO give up the bottle?

Not looking for the 'right' or 'wrong' answer here as, I know there are a lot of differing views but, out of curiosity... what age did your LO stop having milk from a bottle?

Thanks 😊

My BF baby never took a bottle but still has cows milk in a sippy cup at 2.5.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 21/05/2022 21:02

My DS is 13 months and still has a bottle first thing in the morning and before bed.
My excuse is he has cows milk allergy so we give him special formula in a bottle instead of cows milk in a beaker. Although I suppose I could give him the formula in a beaker…

dementedpixie · 21/05/2022 21:03

Dd 15 months
DS by 12 months

Its advised to stop bottles for milk by 1year. They had milk in a lidded cup instead

Just before 1st birthday we swapped to 360 cup for all milk as I think it is recommended for dental reasons

husbandcallsmepickle · 21/05/2022 21:04

We stopped using a bottle at 12months as per WHO guidelines but did swap to a sippee cup

Motherofplants · 21/05/2022 21:17

Honestly mine switched to a soft spout free flow sippee (closest I could find) at 3 years and a few months :/ He still has oat milk overnight due to habit / long term health issues though. Dentist says his teeth are fab as of this week though... He has lost interest in dummies at the same time as the switch.

mommaof1 · 21/05/2022 21:18

So, my little lady had a dummy till she was about 1 and even then she hardly used it. But bottle.... I can't get her away from the thing she's 3 now, and she's obsessed she was using cups all day just before the age of 1 and only having bottle at night but sort of went back, but while she's at nursery she uses cups all day. Not often she wants to use them at home

My eldest stop drinking any milk at all at 11 months so he also naturally stopped having a bottle then. He just used a straw cup for water.

My middle son swapped to cows milk no issues at 1 and had that in a bottle at bedtime until 18 months. He would take water from a 360 (no handles) from about 8m but not milk. That had to be warm and from a bottle.

My youngest is 12m and similarly enjoys water from a 360 cup with handles but still has 4oz of cows milk from a bottle before nap and 7oz cows milk at bedtime. The nap bottle will be dropped soon I think as not too fussed some says, and I will allow bedtime bottle until around 18m then cold turkey it like I did with my middle son.

Teeth are well looked after as well, I should add.

Greentomatoes21 · 21/05/2022 21:28

12 months for both of mine. We moved to milk in a straw cup. Both seemed to love milk, morning and night, but both randomly decided to stop it overnight one day around 18 months. They now have bedtime snack instead. There is 5 years between then but they both did the same thing without encouragement from me!

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 21/05/2022 21:30

12 months, but she would have kept going much longer, was v resistant to a cup.

YouHaveNoAuthorityHereJackie · 21/05/2022 21:35

My dd just turned 3 and sounds similar to a pp, she’s had awful health issues and allergies. Getting her onto a little at all at 12 months was hard enough, I had to stop breastfeeding cold turkey due to needing to take some medication myself. She’s still on a bottle of oat milk a night, will drink from a sippy cup the rest of the day. I’ve no idea how we’re going to stop, but I’m in no hurry to. She has a pretty miserable existence with her stomach so anything that gives her a bit of comfort is fine by me.

MotherOfDragon20 · 21/05/2022 21:36

18 month old still has bottle of cows milk before bed. Teeth thoroughly brushed 15 minutes after. I can’t see how much damage could really be done into one bottle for 5-10 minutes max a day. She absolutely loves it and I’m not stressing about it.

Thought you meant stopped having bottle altogether sorry!! Yes milk is long gone, 12 months she was having milk at bedtime most of the time as she started coming off milk from 4 months as was advised by health visitor it was a good idea as she was a greedy baby lol

AnyFucker · 21/05/2022 21:37

My first one, age 3 years

My 2nd one, age 10 months

I did absolutely nothing different

ablisha · 21/05/2022 21:43

13 months. We use the munchkin straw one now

Anrom19 · 21/05/2022 21:45

At around 3 . Seems to have done him no harm at 30 (unless there’s something he’s not telling me) don’t sweat the small stuff

Hugasauras · 21/05/2022 21:45

At about a year. We moved on to various different types of cups.

AliasGrape · 21/05/2022 21:52

About 14/ 15 months.

Between 12 months and then I think I bought just about every cup on the market in the hope she’d drink milk from it, but she wasn’t having it. She drank water from them all quite happily! I kept the bottle just for milk before bed as it was such an integral part of our routine and I did think it was good for her. Eventually she started to accept milk from a cup and the bottle went, though she doesn’t have much milk to drink now, a few sips before bed still but the rest of the day it’s just water.

Lolllllllllllll · 22/05/2022 00:06

None of my 4 had a bottle. I Brest fed them for a year which was the recommended time when my kids were kettle and then they went to soppy cups or regular cups.

Nat6999 · 22/05/2022 00:30

Ds had a bottle at bedtime until about 3.5, he had a dummy until just after he started school, no problems with his teeth at all.

nutellingyou · 22/05/2022 00:48

12 months for all 3. They didn't mind at all. Some of the milk they'd been having with meals was in sippy cups before that's so they were ok with it. I think it's what was recommended at the time to allow to milk to pass quickly past the teeth.

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 22/05/2022 08:45

DD1 about 13 months. She would have stopped earlier when she had to give up formula at 11 months (under paediatric dietitian instructions) but I wanted her to still have the option when we were on holiday or make sure she drank enough.

DD2 never had one

ZooKeeper19 · 23/05/2022 21:02

My kids will drink water, tea, milk or anything else from a mug, a sippy cup or from regular bottle (or from a cat bowl or a puddle or a hose).

They still get a bottle for a nap/bedtime, normal standard regular bottle (funny enough with the newborn teat too). Their teeth are good, and they sleep well. I'm not taking the bottle away unless they say "no thanks". Aged 1 and 2,5.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 23/05/2022 21:05

Around 3.5- I didn’t care, no dummy no comforter no sucking of her thumb- just liked a bedtime bottle of milk. When the bottle went she refused milk.

Honaloulou · 23/05/2022 21:08

DD would never blood take one. Oh how I tried!

Very happy with cows milk in any old cup at one, though. If I have another I'll try formula in a cup earlier on.
