How to change formula

GreyGoose1980 · 21/05/2022 06:20

We are in the process of switching DD’s formula milk as she is getting a lot of colic. We just switched (two days ago) but her symptoms seem worse than ever and she is very out of sorts. Should we have phased this change in? The health visitor said either way was fine. How long should we leave it before concluding the new one does not agree with her. I feel really sad to see DD in distress. Does anyone have any advice? TIA

Is it possible it's something like a milk allergy and not related to the actual formula?

Unless you've switched to a specialist formula it's unlikely to make much difference because the UK regulates baby milk so tightly they're all 99% the same.

Much more likely that the problem is something else. Reflux, allergy, just being a baby...

Thanks both. We have am 8 week doctors appointment coming up so will speak to them about reflux and a potential allergy.

The symptoms are much worse since changing formula - has anyone moved from Aptamil to Hip organic and if so did you phase it in?

Hello, did hip help in the end? We have just changed our little one from aptimal to Hipp we are on day 3 and so far constipation seems worse, don’t know when I should expect to see any improvements if it works

Hi
We changed it all at once and that didn’t seem to agree with my DD so we took a step back and phased the Hipp in. After a couple of weeks I began to see positive changes and she was better on the Hipp. I think each week she was also growing out of the colic and she turned a corner at 12 weeks. She still has formula milk more ‘little and often’ than most babies her age but is otherwise feeding well. Hope your LO’s symptoms improve soon.
