Baby can’t poo in nappy?

My 3 week old never poos in her nappy, when we take off her nappy to change her it’s always just wet then when we lift her legs she poos!

She does try to poo in her nappy but it seems like she is struggling and can’t get it out, even when we lift her legs and do bicycle legs with her nappy on she still can’t go until her nappy is off.
I’m not sure if this is something of concern or if it’s just the way she is. It’s just becoming frustrating as every nappy change results in an outfit change as it just shoots out of her and is impossible to catch it all in the nappy!

It might be worth maybe looking into elimination communication (EC) if that's your sort of thing. We've been offering the potty to our little one since she was less than a week old and she nearly always wees in the potty every nappy change, and nearly all poops too as over time we've picked up her cues and can tell when she needs to go with things like her tummy rumbling, time of day, change in behaviour etc. We offer it when we think she needs to go and at every nappy change. I think the position of being on held over/on the potty with knees up helps get baby in a good position to go.

I remember this with my son.
He preferred his nappy open.
He did of course start pooing in nappy as normal. I just found when he was newborn he preferred it open and sometimes needed help to get it out.

Google grunting baby syndrome.

The nappy being open just stimulates them in the right place so they manage to get it out.

Undress baby for nappy changes and put a puppy pad on top of your changing mat to minimise mess

My younger daughter was like this, would never poo in a nappy. We ended up sitting her on the potty at nappy changes and she'd go then. She pee'd in her nappy fine but potty trained herself for wees as well as poos before she was 2.

Had similar with my son. We used to take the baby grow off and he could go then with vest and baby grow. Think it was movement of legs for him, maybe worth a try?

Or open nappy and then close again ?
