When do you get shoes for your toddler?

My daughter is 15 months old and she can walk, yesterday she was walking around the kitchen and lounge and later on in the garden on the grass. She is still a bit unsteady on her feet. However she much prefers to knee walk. If I put her down, she automatically wants to go on her knees.

When do I get her shoes? Should I wait longer?

I was planning on getting her measured and buying her first shoes at Clark's but don't want to rush it

Generally 6 weeks after starting to walk and then they should only be worn outside when necessary.

I bought mine shoes once they were walking holding my hand so they could totter outside even if the weather wasn’t great and/or we were out of the house e.g. at the park. For DC1 that was 9 months, for DC2 that was 10 months. Always barefoot at home though!

Clarks used to say 6 weeks after first steps.

IME you'll know when they switch from mostly crawling to mostly walking, as they all do this stage in between, and that's the right time. As mine did this in the summer I got them little leather shoes like Robees/dotty fish which are suitable to protect their feet from smooth floors, like indoor places which might be communal/dirty, and people's gardens.

I got my DS shoes when he was ready to walk around in the garden. 11 months for him.
We tried them out in the house a few times first to get him used to them, but now he only wears them outside.

Clarks isn't the best place to go any more. If you have any local independent places I'd try there.
