Glue ear / regression

Hi, Dad to a 2 year old boy here.

The glue ear questions all come up on here but one thing I can’t find is anybody discussing regression from glue ear.

We’ve just had his 2nd hearing test and definite glue ear confirmed. 1st test was slightly inconclusive, due to illness at the time.

Obviously you have the potential of being on the spectrum and maybe even as well as glue ear, however, this is our first step.

Wanted to see whether anyone had any experience with their children regressing from having glue ear?

My boy seemed to be progressing at the usual rate (I understand that kids progress differently) - saying the odd word, pointing, reacting, kissing on demand etc etc, to now, hardly anything.
As a baby, strong eye contact and copying sounds and even at one point was copying his Yorkshire mums accent and repeating “bayybeh” (baby 😂).
He would interact with our dog and point to and kiss pictures of similar dogs and now doesn’t show any interest in him at all now.

He still (very randomly) says the odd word but usually unrelated to what you’re doing. There’s pretty much zero reaction to calling his name or trying to get his attention.
literally the only way to do so, is by turning Duggee on loud or this one song that he really likes (guessing that he can hear the frequencies of these things well enough).

But yeah, main question… anybody noticed any regression at all, rather than development issues? TIA.

What did the hearing test conclude? Is his hearing affected? If it is then it's understandable.

My little one’s attention and speech regressed following glue ear. I first noticed the very drastic change at around 18months. He is now 3 years old and hasn’t had his surgeries yet. He has a hearing aid which helps at home but not in noisy environments.
