My daughter (10) is getting fed up that all her books feature older siblings as the main character, with annoying younger siblings.

Can anyone please recommend books/tv shows/films where the protagonist is a younger sibling - and not an annoying one!!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid? He’s a middle child I think.

The Queen’s Nose by Dick King Smith

The Ghost of Thomas Kempe had an annoying big sister. Lucy is the main character in Narnia. The book of the banshee is a little brother's perspective of a teenage sister

The Ramona and Beezus books

The Varjak Paw books - they're cats, but the sibling dynamic between Varjak and older siblings is very much part of the story. My kids LOVED those books.

Ramona Quimby! I think the first one is from the viewpoint of the older sister, Beezus but they are much more Ramona focused after that.

They're pretty old, although still funny, but the Just William books.

Gobbolino the Witch's Cat - his older sister Sootica is a perfect witch's cat, he's all wrong and has to find a different place in the world.

William had Ethel and Robert as older siblings.

The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe? Lucy is the main character and youngest sibling. And Tom Gates, of the books of the same name, has a big sister.

Charmed Life. Main character is the younger brother.

Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Lucy is a younger sister in The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe.

My Naughty Little Sister. The older sibling is the narrator but the naughty little sister is the MC.

William had Ethel and Robert as older siblings.

Yes, that's why I suggested him.

Dido Twite is a younger sibling in Black Hearts in Battersea and the sequels , although her older sister isn’t in most of the sequels

The main character in A Kind of Spark by Elle McNicoll is the youngest sister with 2 older sisters. Great book.

Ramona for definite! One of my favourite series as a child and perfectly illustrates the hardship of being the younger one!

I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith is a fantastic read from the perspective of a clever, witty younger sister with an equally clever older sister.

There's also the Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper if she's into fantasy and magic; the main character is a seventh son of a seventh son, and other leading characters have interesting sibling dynamics too!

The Babysitters Club, a couple of the main characters like Kristy and Claudia are younger siblings and my 11 year old DD has enjoyed them. The first few books were reprinted to tie in with the Netflix series but the rest are easy enough to get on ebay.

Hating Alison Ashley, by Robyn Klein. A classic Australian comedy narrated by the third of four hilarious siblings.

In Arthur Ransome, Titty is the younger sister and third child in the Walker family. She is Ransome's favourite, and gets the most individual storylines, although all the characters feature. (The Walkers don't feature in all the books.)

Noel Streatfeild often features younger sisters, but they sometimes are annoying! But NS was a younger sister herself. Her semi-autobiographical A Vicarage Family, about an Edwardian childhood, focuses on the second sister.

Antonia Forest's Marlow books focus on the twins, especially Nicola, who are the youngest of a big family of mostly girls.

TinyTear · 19/05/2022 15:38

Starfell!

Willow Moss is the younger sister
